January 31, 2022, Annapolis, MD – Jonathan C. Shoemaker appeared before the Judiciary Committee for the Maryland House of Delegates on January 19, 2022 to testify about proposed legislation which would render duty to defend provisions in design professional contracts void and unenforceable as a matter of law in Maryland. During the course of the testimony offered by a panel selected by ACEC/Maryland, Jonathan outlined the legal consequences of these provisions, the unique challenges faced by design professionals related to these provisions, and the impact these provisions can have on small businesses in the State of Maryland.
