October 1, 2025, Washington, DC – Paul E. Knupp, III of Lee/Shoemaker presented, “Sustainability and Liability: Legal Issues and Best Practices,” along with Seonhee Kim, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, EcoDistricts AP of Design Collective, Inc. at DesignDC. During the program, Paul and Seonhee explored best practices and strategies for being a positive driver of environmental progress while avoiding the unique legal pitfalls that arise when trying to affect human behavior and cultivate experiential stewardship to nature and each other through design. Based on ‘lessons learned’ from recent projects, the program covered proven techniques for mitigating liability while successfully designing for the environmental and social good.
